Communications and research internship

Duration: 4 to 6 months

TAPOL are looking for an Indonesian-speaking intern to work on its programme advocating for political prisoners and monitoring freedom of expression in Indonesia. The successful candidate will be fluent in written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and English. She or he should have good oral and written communication skills, have a basic understanding of using Wordpress and have good research and inter-personal skills. An ability to assist with administration tasks from time to time is also desirable.

The intern will undertake a variety of tasks to support the programme including:

  • Drafting, translating material and updating programme website with up-to-date information on political prisoners and cases
  • Regularly maintaining and updating social media accounts in English and in Indonesian in view of raising profile and increasing online followers
  • Assisting in monitoring relevant Indonesian and/or English language news sites for latest developments on issues of freedom of expression and political prisoners in Papua and Indonesia
  •  Assisting in planning public events including public screenings, talks and public actions
  • Tracking international and Indonesian press coverage of programme work

Interns are expected to work 2 days per week (7 hours per day) over a period of 4–6 months.

Interns are entitled to travel expenses up to a maximum of £5.60 per day and lunch expenses up to a maximum of £5 per day.
